Le samedi après-midi dans le 13e arrondissement de Paris, le jardin Kateb-Yacine a été inauguré officiellement, en hommage à cet homme de lettres et de théâtre, figure emblématique de la culture algérienne du XXe siècle.
La cérémonie, à laquelle une foule nombreuse a assisté: artistes, hommes de culture et autres s’est déroulée en présence du maire du 13e arrondissement de Paris, Jérôme Coumet, l’ambassadeur d’Algérie en France, Abdelkader Mesdoua et l’artiste Amazigh Kateb, fils de Yacine, et de membres de sa famille.
Le jardin, situé au 18, rue Antoine Watteau, a été créé en 2000 par des paysagistes français au sein d’une résidence de logements sociaux. Il comprend une parcelle de jardins familiaux où 27 familles cultivent des potagers. C’est grâce à un travail de l’association Ameslay, qui milite pour la mise en valeur de la culture algérienne avec sa particularité amazighe, que la mairie du 13e a décidé de baptiser ce jardin au nom de Kateb Yacine le rebelle, poète, écrivain et dramaturge.
Le fils Amazigh a déclaré que son père souhaitait voir en l’Algérie «un grand parc de liberté». Très ému par l’événement, il a raconté que Kateb Yacine «aimait se balader, sortait marcher tous les jours et n’oubliait jamais de ramener avec lui des fleurs», ajoutant que ce jardin est «une bibliothèque vivante de la nature», à l’image de son père.
Son roman Nedjma est considéré comme fondateur de la littérature algérienne moderne. Auteur trilingue, il a écrit en langue française, «butin de guerre» des Algériens, comme il l’avait affirmé, tout en se consacrant à l’expression d’un véritable théâtre populaire en langues arabe et berbère.
L’inauguration du jardin Kateb-Yacine s’inscrit dans le cadre des Journées de la Méditerranée, initiées par la mairie du 13e arrondissement de Paris, qui a tracé un programme d’activités culturelles autour de l’auteur Yacine. La cérémonie a été couronnée par un bal, autour de stands de dégustation et de figues séchées, d’huile, de pâtisseries et autres produits du terroir algérien.
