Les travaux de la 17e conférence de l’Union des conseils des pays membres de l’Organisation de la Coopération islamique (UPCI) débuteront dimanche à Alger sur fond de défis et de menaces auxquels est confronté le monde musulman, outre la grave escalade sioniste contre le peuple palestinien et ses symboles sacrés.
Placée sous le thème “Le monde islamique et les enjeux de la modernisation et du développement”, cette session verra la participation des représentants de plus de 35 parlements, dont 22 présidents de parlements, ce qui témoigne du “rôle important” de l’Algérie dans les relations internationales, notamment dans le monde arabo-musulman et à l’international, a affirmé le membre du comité exécutif de l’UPCI, Mohamed Yazid Benhamouda.
La réunion des parlementaires du monde musulman, représentant plus de 1,8 milliard de citoyens musulmans, intervient sur fond des menaces et défis que connaît le monde musulman, exigeant l’unification des positions des musulmans, notamment au regard des développements effrénés et des offensives de l’extrême droite occidentale à l’égard des musulmans et de leurs symboles sacrés.

Benhamouda a fait savoir qu'”ils prendront en considération les résultats du Sommet arabe, de la Déclaration d’Alger au sujet de la Palestine et de la Conférence de rassemblement des factions palestiniennes”, précisant que cet objectif “n’est pas facilement réalisable et doit être appuyé davantage”.
Les travaux de la Conférence ont été précédés par des réunions préparatoires de la 17e session. Les participants ont souligné que leur tenue à Alger constituait un véritable tournant dans le parcours de l’union et une nouvelle étape dans l’histoire des relations parlementaires entre pays musulmans.
